Your donation will help improve the post surgery patient experience

Nancy Albanese served our community for over 40 years at Medina Memorial Hospital. Most of her time was spent taking care of patients after they came out of surgery, maybe even you or a close family member. She was there to comfort, to care for and to make sure you were ready for the next step of your journey towards recovering and healing.

Sadly, Nancy passed away in August of 2019. At that time the community poured out their love for her through social media, letters to the hospital, and in conversation no matter where we went. She was active in the community through clubs, social groups, and even participated on boards. As a member of the hospital Foundation board she pursued projects that benefited every area of service and actively sought support for them. We always knew that an opportunity to honor Nancy was going to happen and we were thrilled when her family reached out to us to do just that.

This past October we started working with her family on a project to update the unit with a new desk and some paint. After touring the facility and discussing with them the true needs it became evident that more needed to be done. The project grew and so did their generosity towards it.

However, the funds they have privately raised to date will not cover the expense of a true upgrade. They want to ensure that when a patient is at Medina Memorial Hospital for surgery, that they have a truly wonderful experience and recover in an environment that is comforting. So, the project has grown and the idea to open it up to the public came about.

To date, the plans are to apply a fresh coat of paint, purchase a new nurse’s desk and chair, new privacy curtain system, and new storage cabinets. Additionally, we would also like to install new lighting, flooring and new patient lockers. The extent of this project is solely based on the funds raised. We are working on finalizing bids for the project and it is beginning to look like we will need $30,000 to really give it a top to bottom upgrade.

A memorial plaque will be displayed outside the PACU recovery room. All donors will be recognized for their contributions on the plaque. If you sponsor a storage cabinet or patient locker, you will have your name printed or engraved on a small plaque that will be secured to the front of the unit. Once the renovations are complete there will be a room dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony. We will privately announce this event, with details, to all donors when the date has been set

If you would like to mail or drop off a donation you may do so at Orleans Community Health Attn: Foundation Office, 200 Ohio St., Medina, NY 14103.
